Google Sheet that Sends a Reminder of Bill Payments

Do you you struggle with keeping up with your due dates?
Do you review your finances on a Google Sheet?

Then this template will come in handy. This Google Sheet will email you whenever you have a payment that's due.

How to use:

Step 1: Copy the template

To copy the template, head over to: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1akguSPjU5RaGIWUj1d0h4BVg33rw7gpawl6Ljj9uQfc/copy#gid=0 and click "Make a Copy."

👉 Note: Make sure you are copying the copy from a free gmail account, not under your company's Google workspace. Free Gmail accounts end with "@gmail.com."


Step 2: Add your upcoming payments

This template is pre-filled with place holder payment items. Go ahead and add yours. If you have payments that are due today, better. Otherwise, I encourage you to add a dummy payment that's due today so you can test the email reminder right away.


Step 3: Go to Extensions > Apps Script > Click Run

You'll have to activate the email automation. Don't worry this just requires a few clicking. To start, head over to Apps Script right under the Extensions menu

It will open up to the code or development environment. Not to worry, you're only here to click one button. Go ahead and click "Run."


Step 4: Give permissions to the script to email you

This will prompt you to review permissions. Go ahead and review.

Google will tell you that it hasn't verified the app or the automation script. Go ahead and click on "Advanced."

Go ahead and click on "Bill Reminders Script"

Here, Google is telling you that the script will be able to view your spreadsheet and send emails on your behalf. Go ahead and click allow. It will run the email reminder script. If you had a bill that's due today, you would be receiving an email.

Step 5: Add the time of day you want to emailed whenever you have a payment due

Next we want to run the automation at a certain time of the day. Click on the "<>" icon.

Click on "Add Trigger."

Finally, go ahead and click "Time Driven" event source along with "Day timer" and the time of the day you want to be emailed. Then hit save.

And voila! You now have an email reminder for your upcoming payments.
